Finger slices vs dessert portions
There are two ways to serve a cake. Finger slices are the slim slices handed round at a party. Dessert portions are larger, plated slices served with a fork. A cake giving 24 finger slices gives roughly 12 dessert portions.
How many does each size serve?
| Cake size | Finger slices | Dessert portions |
|---|---|---|
| 6 inch | 10 to 12 | 5 to 6 |
| 8 inch | 20 to 24 | 10 to 12 |
| 10 inch | 35 to 40 | 18 to 20 |
| 12 inch | 50 to 55 | 25 to 28 |
| Two tier (6 + 8) | 30 to 36 | 15 to 18 |
| Three tier (6 + 8 + 10) | 65 to 75 | 33 to 38 |
Three quick tips
- Serving cake in the evening after a meal? You can size down.
- Is the cake the only dessert, or the centrepiece? Size up.
- When unsure, choose the larger size. Leftover cake is never wasted.
